Mike Cathcart has joined the cast of the Jim Stafford Show! Jim has a wonderful show that is always evolving; it’s full of comedy, of course, and really, really good musicianship. Jim is a world-class guitarist and likes good talent around him.
Mike, who is the son of Peggy Lennon and the late Dick Cathcart, is an outstanding guitarist and is well known to many Branson visitors. He was with the Lennon Cathcart Show last year and also played piano and sang at Moon River Grill. Andy Williams once said, “Mike is the best singer I know.”
Jim and Mike do some songs together on the guitar, including Classical Gas and Malaguena. Mike says it’s “an honor to be on stage with Jim.” Mike’s Ain’t Misbehavin’ is nice, and you’ll enjoy his original-the-way-Jimmy Webb-wrote-it version of Galveston.
The entire show is artfully arranged, mixing music with comedy in a “thrill ride” of fun. Jim makes “everyday” things funny. Sometimes you chuckle and smile. Other times you laugh out loud; and, of course, Jim reminds you to “let it out!”
Cow Patti and Spiders and Snakes are just two of Jim’s popular comedy songs. The 1974 Spiders sits in the top 50 of Billboard’s Hot 100 Country Songs, along with the hits of Elvis, Glen Campbell, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Marty Robbins and other legendary recording artists. Jim told me he’s been “makin’ a living” with his guitar since he was 16.
Jim and Ann’s Shea and G.G. have been part of the show since they were babies; I remember Ann walking down the theater aisle with them when each was just a few days old, as Jim sang his That’s What Little Kids Do. Shea is 20 now and G.G. is 16! They’re now good musicians, veteran performers. Don’t miss The Jim Stafford Show. When the curtain goes up, the fun begins!

Entertainers honor Branson tradition

In 2011, a family of entertainers decided to completely repackage and rename their show. Featuring more than 40 cast and crew members, “it” features one of the largest performing families in the world, the Hughes family.
“We worked on a lot of this stuff for a while, but didn’t put anything into the show until 2011,” Marty Hughes said. “We just thought that ‘Hughes Brothers’ didn’t describe our show since there is so much more besides us in the show.”
Because the old title wasn’t conducive to what the family was trying to convey, a new title was chosen. “The title ‘it’ has a little mystique to it, and ‘it’ is a whole lot easier to advertise,” said Marty Hughes. “Changing the show name was honestly a great move. We’ve seen an increase in numbers, and they are continuing to grow, which is a good thing.”
According to youngest of the brothers, Andy Hughes, “it” was the perfect title for their stage extravaganza.
“We are a variety show featuring so many things, we don’t know how to describe it other than saying it’s ‘it,’” Andy Hughes said. “We want people to experience ‘it’ for themselves and not get a preconceived notion as to what ‘it’ is, because they might be surprised. You have to see ‘it’ to get ‘it,’ because ‘it’ is what ‘it’ is.”
According to Hughes, getting the entire family involved is something they’ve done for several different reasons.

Kirby VanBurch completes tour of Branson Theaters

(Branson MO ~ Tuesday, February 5, 2013) Kirby VanBurch, internationally renowned entertainer and illusionist, announced today that he has signed for permanent residency at a theater on Branson’s world famous West 76 Highway, fondly known as “the strip”. Kirby VanBurch has played at multiple different theaters throughout his 20 plus year career in Branson. Kirby says, “I’ve long joked about being one of the only entertainers in Branson actually touring Branson; so to be able to say that I’ve found my permanent home is really exciting; especially as me and the cats are ready to settle down.” Kirby’s new home at 1835 W 76 Country Boulevard will be renamed the Kirby VanBurch Theatre.
“This theater is perfect for my show. I like to have an intimate setting with my audiences so I can interact with them.” VanBurch adds, “This Theater has the space to allow me to do up close and personal magic and at the same time pull off some big illusions.” The new Kirby VanBurch Theatre (formerly known as Music City Centre) will also be home to Kirby’s famous Big Cats as well as his other furry (and not so furry) friends. “We’re in the process of doing some remodeling on the stage and should be able to open for shows on March 15 at 8:00pm,” says Kirby. “Along with the remodel we’re adapting the illusions to the new stage. Luckily, we’re quite familiar with the theater as Bambi was signed to do her own show there for three months in 2009 and we created special illusions for her for that run. Of course she’ll be featured in my show again this year.”

Ayo starring Voices of Glory kicks off its first season in Branson at the Hughes Brothers Theatre on Monday, March 18, 2013, at 3:00pm. The new show stars some very famous siblings, Michael, Avery, and Nadia Cole, who together are known as Voices of Glory. Ayo (Yoruba for Joy) is being co-produced by the Hughes Brothers who are known for their creative productions including the show it and the Hughes Brothers Christmas Show. Jason Hughes says, “In Ayo we’re taking the audience on a journey of joy using song, dance, lights, and the personalities of Michael, Avery, and Nadia, backed up by a live band.” Michael Cole adds, “We love the music and we love what music can do for people. In Ayo we want the audience to feel what we feel when we sing – a pure call to joy!” Shows are from March through December, check schedule for exact dates and specific show times.
Nadia Cole says, “Ayo adds another level to the Branson show mix. Long time fans of the Voices of Glory are familiar with their amazing story. They first started singing together in a hospital room for their mother who was in a coma brought on by a head-on collision with a drunk driver. The kids serenaded their mother for months and then she came out of her coma. They continued to visit hospitals singing for others who were in need. Then they appeared on America’s Got Talent in 2009 – where their audition in front of the live audience was awe-inspiring. Their eventual rank in the top 5 catapulted them into major appearances and touring internationally. They most recently appeared in Branson as a featured act in Andy Williams Christmas Show. Their most recent international appearance took them to Germany for Weihnachtszauber. Of their many charitable and recording projects, their most current project - a new album called “Send-A-Miracle” - will be available on March 1 and includes some of their own original music.

Live music shows are Branson's entertainment heart

Who could have known back in 1959 that when the Mabe family started performing their country music variety show called the “Baldknobbers,” in a small 50 seat basement room in the Branson Community Center, the show would still be going 50 years later? Who would have thought that not only would the Baldknobbers be around 50 years later, but that that there would be another 99 or so shows of every type and description also entertaining millions of Branson guests?
If, in 1959, someone had said, “50 years from now people will be coming from all over the world to see live music shows in Branson” they would have been laughed at. Well, no one’s laughing now.
Oh sure, the millions of visitors coming to Branson come to see more than shows. They come to see the natural wonder of the Ozark Mountains, play or fish in one of our three lakes, go to Silver Dollar City to one of Branson’s many other attractions, shop or participate in the myriad of activities and things there is to see and do in and around Branson. But, let there be no doubt about it, the very heart beat of Branson’s entertainment heart started with the first beat of music from the Baldknobbers show 50 years ago.
To an Ole Seagull, Branson’s entertainment heart is its music shows, particularly its family music shows and the values they represent. It is that heart that pumped the entertainment blood that enabled Branson to grow from one show entertaining a few fishermen a couple of nights a week in downtown Branson into the varied entertainment Mecca, entertaining about 7.5 million guests per year, it has become.
Oh sure a lot of things happened in conjunction with that first show, the completion of Table Rock Dam, the expending of Marvel Cave into what would become eventually become the international theme park award winner, Silver Dollar City, the Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama and improvements to Highway 65. In 1967 the Presleys’ Country Jubilee opened its theatre on the now famous Branson Strip followed by the Baldknobbers as they moved out from their downtown location, the Foggy River Boys, and the Plummer Family. From there history speaks for itself.
Branson’s original country show style provided the foundation upon which the Branson show industry has grown. But today, as the live music show capital of the world celebrates 50 years of music shows those shows provide a breadth of entertainment that transcends any one genre or type of music.
The term “music show” covers just about every show in Branson where music is used either as a primary or peripheral element. Branson is celebrating 50 years of music shows because its shows have provided the type of entertainment and perceived value system that its audiences embrace and have become a unique part of the Branson entertainment brand that brings millions of people to Branson each year.
As those visitor come the see Branson they are offered a choice of shows offering everything from music, magic, comedy acrobatic, outdoor drama, pets, and variety shows most of which are still true to the initial family values and the heritage that started it all. Indeed, on just about a nightly basis throughout the season, one can still see, the “Baldknobbers,” “the show that started it all” and the “Presley’s Country Jubilee,” ‘the first show on the Branson Strip’” perform while having the choice of seeing one of the 98 other live shows available.
Some say Branson needs new entertainers, demographics, etc. An Ole Seagull believes that Branson needs to follow its “heart,” keep it healthy, promote and market it and the same thing that has happened over the last 50 years will continue to happen. Who could have known back in 1959 that when the Mabe family started performing their country music variety show called the “Baldknobbers,” in a small 50 seat basement room in the Branson Community Center, the show would still be going 50 years later? Who would have thought that not only would the Baldknobbers be around 50 years later, but that that there would be another 99 or so shows of every type and description also entertaining millions of Branson guests?
If, in 1959, someone had said, “50 years from now people will be coming from all over the world to see live music shows in Branson” they would have been laughed at. Well, no one’s laughing now.
Oh sure, the millions of visitors coming to Branson come to see more than shows. They come to see the natural wonder of the Ozark Mountains, play or fish in one of our three lakes, go to Silver Dollar City to one of Branson’s many other attractions, shop or participate in the myriad of activities and things there is to see and do in and around Branson. But, let there be no doubt about it, the very heart beat of Branson’s entertainment heart started with the first beat of music from the Baldknobbers show 50 years ago.
To an Ole Seagull, Branson’s entertainment heart is its music shows, particularly its family music shows and the values they represent. It is that heart that pumped the entertainment blood that enabled Branson to grow from one show entertaining a few fishermen a couple of nights a week in downtown Branson into the varied entertainment Mecca, entertaining about 7.5 million guests per year, it has become.
Oh sure a lot of things happened in conjunction with that first show, the completion of Table Rock Dam, the expending of Marvel Cave into what would become eventually become the international theme park award winner, Silver Dollar City, the Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama and improvements to Highway 65. In 1967 the Presleys’ Country Jubilee opened its theatre on the now famous Branson Strip followed by the Baldknobbers as they moved out from their downtown location, the Foggy River Boys, and the Plummer Family. From there history speaks for itself.
Branson’s original country show style provided the foundation upon which the Branson show industry has grown. But today, as the live music show capital of the world celebrates 50 years of music shows those shows provide a breadth of entertainment that transcends any one genre or type of music.
The term “music show” covers just about every show in Branson where music is used either as a primary or peripheral element. Branson is celebrating 50 years of music shows because its shows have provided the type of entertainment and perceived value system that its audiences embrace and have become a unique part of the Branson entertainment brand that brings millions of people to Branson each year.
As those visitor come the see Branson they are offered a choice of shows offering everything from music, magic, comedy acrobatic, outdoor drama, pets, and variety shows most of which are still true to the initial family values and the heritage that started it all. Indeed, on just about a nightly basis throughout the season, one can still see, the “Baldknobbers,” “the show that started it all” and the “Presley’s Country Jubilee,” ‘the first show on the Branson Strip’” perform while having the choice of seeing one of the 98 other live shows available.
Some say Branson needs new entertainers, demographics, etc. An Ole Seagull believes that Branson needs to follow its “heart,” keep it healthy, promote and market it and the same thing that has happened over the last 50 years will continue to happen. Post office, mini-skirts, Branson Zipline, and poodle skirts play part
(Branson, MO – Thursday, October 13, 2011) — Want to know how to raise big bucks for breast cancer research? Just ask Carl Junction’s Chamber of Commerce President, Gary Stubblefield. This month, Stubblefield plans to take part in a flash mob, illuminate Carl Junction with pink lighting, wear a pink mini-skirt at city council meetings and among other things – if Carl Junction can raise over $40,000 – wear a pink poodle skirt while zipping at Wolfe Creek Preserve home of Branson Zipline Canopy Tours. And not just any zip, he’ll take flight on the Blue Streak Fast Line (at one point soaring over 150’ in the air) and then take the plunge on the Freefall Xpress, North America’s only 100’ freefall dismount controlled by a power fan.

Those funds go towards breast cancer research. Stubblefield says, “In addition Carl Junction CARES, the group supporting stamp sales, has fundraising and awareness activities to raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks (BCFO), the Hope4You breast cancer foundation and for the association Early Detection Works.” For October, National Breast Cancer Awareness month, Carl Junction CARES, led by Stubblefield, plans for dozens of activities to help them take first place in raising funds for 2011. “Last year, the post office that placed first in the nation sold $42,000 worth of stamps, our goal is to beat that amount. If we can raise over $40,000 by October 31, you’ll see me and my pretty pink poodle skirt at Branson Zipline Canopy Tours on November 5. I hope to be joined by our City Council, the mayor, city administrators and Carl Junction Post Master,” says Stubblefield. “Now that will be worth the price of the stamps alone.”
There are additional activities and ways that you can help Carl Junction meet its goal. “With Carl Junction Cares the bottom line is anything can be done, if you believe enough in what you are doing. We have had two detections in our first 3 years of doing this. That is what I am most proud of,” says Stubblefield. “We will be busy just about every day to bring attention to the cause.” The observance kicked off the first of October with Carl Junction going pink at dusk and sales of the official United States Postal Service’s breast cancer awareness postage stamp at the Carl Junction post office, 111 S. Main St. The lighting, along with pink ribbons on utility poles and pink awareness ribbons on Main Street, will be in place throughout the month. To participate in supporting the cause by purchasing postage stamps from any location contact the Carl Junction Post Office at 417-649-7831.

• Oct. 27, Carl Junction CARES (CJ CARES) will have an information booth set up at “Bridging the Generations” senior expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Bridge, 3405 S. Hammons Blvd.
• Oct. 28, the fourth annual CJ CARES “Community Snapshot to Show You Care” will be taken in ribbon formation at 6:30 p.m. at the Carl Junction High School stadium. Public participation is sought for the event.
• Other events that have taken place include: The “Skate to Show You Care” held at Spinning Wheels SK8 Center. At that time the post office hit $10,000 in breast cancer awareness postage stamp sales, the entire City Council wore pink poodle skirts to that night’s council meeting. Saturday, Oct. 8, “Breast Cancer Awareness Biker Style,” a breast cancer awareness expo, was held from 10 a.m. to noon at Cycle Connection of Joplin.

You can be a Star in Branson MO!
Kirby VanBurch and MyStudio launch search for the next BIG Branson Act!
(Branson MO ~ Monday, June 20, 2011) Kirby VanBurch, internationally renowned entertainer and illusionist, announced today that he is searching for a featured act to perform during his show in October of 2011. Kirby says, “In order to find just the right act to feature I’ve teamed up with MyStudio to acquire audition videos. MyStudio was also used by Simon Cowell’s X-Factor to acquire audition videos and I thought it was a great way to find my next big featured act.”
The search begins June 20, 2011 and will run through August 31, 2011. Those looking to create their audition video for consideration can visit any one of the MyStudio HD Recording Studio locations and then submit it on-line at www.MyStudio.net. Videos uploaded for the audition will be reviewed and those considered for the Kirby VanBurch stage will be posted and voted on by the general public. Branson Performers help out with Joplin clean up effort

The support is coming from everywhere now dozens of Branson performers will participate in the Joplin relief effort during a Branson cares telethon.
We will air that telethon on Sunday, June 26th but today Angela Garcia met up with a number of those performers who are already getting started.
The sound of chainsaws and stacking debris aren't typical sounds coming from these Branson entertainers.
A handful of performers put their normal jobs on hold to help clean up Joplin neighborhoods.
"we're glad to be here glad to help out however we can- good way to spend the weekend. The silver lining in all of this is that so many people can come together and do some good together. It just makes you feel good inside."
The Hughes brothers signed up to volunteer through their church
They will also participate in the Branson Cares Telethon.
This was the first time many of the performers had been in Joplin since the tornado hit.
"I just couldn't believe the devastation. All the trees torn apart. The buildings leveled, uh pieces of metal and buildings wrapped around trees. It's hard to believe. It's completely different to see things first hand than to see it on the news or see pictures of it. "
Tim Dutton and his wife volunteered through the boomtown days event.
They signed up for the race which was then changed to a clean up day after the tornado.
"Many of the Branson performers say they offer relief to people through their entertainment. After seeing the devastation in Joplin they knew they had to bring their effort here."

Longtime Branson entertainer Moe Bandy has decided he will not perform at the Jim Stafford Theatre this season as he had planned, and the “Top 10 Rock and Roll Revue,” a tribute show that recently began its third season at the Branson Mall, will take his place.
Cindy Merry, Bandy’s publicist, said his touring schedule and some other projects he is working on forced him to push his opening date at the Jim Stafford Theatre back to Sept. 4. Merry, who is also Stafford’s marketing consultant, said the theater was having difficulty finding an act that would agree to perform at the time slot only for the next few months.
“Moe Bandy and the Staffords are really good friends,” Merry said. “And when Moe found out nobody wanted the spot if they couldn’t go all year, he was gracious enough to give it up.”

A Trip To Branson Goes Beyond the Expected
Amy Bertrand wrote a nice story on Branson for the St Louis Post-Dispatch. In particular she notes: "I'll admit I was curious. In the weeks preceding our trip to Branson, I had heard opinions on the "Live Music Capital of the World" from several dozen people. They ranged from criticisms of the kitsch to raves about the activities for kids. Two of the biggest cheerleaders were my parents, who visit Branson twice a year. They helped us plan and then joined us on a family trip to the Ozarks town."

News anchor conquers fear of heights on new zipline adventure near Branson MO

WALNUT SHADE, Mo. -- A new attraction opens this weekend just north of Branson. It takes you zipping above the tree lines. For some, that sounds like a blast. For KY3 News anchor Maria Neider, it's just downright scary. Here's her experience on the zipline ride.
"Go ahead and step into the harness," guide Robert Cameron instructed.
When you suffer from acrophobia, strapping in for this ride will cause the sweat to break out. Neider has it -- bad.
"Are you nervous?" she was asked.
"Paul, of course, I'm nervous. That's crazy," she replied.
Neider has a severe anxiety about heights.
"Are you going to laugh at Maria?" a reprter asked General Manager Emma Hamilton.
"No, I won't laugh. I've been there too. I totally understand," said Hamilton.
"This is the tether; this connects to the actual zipline and the trolley," said Cameron.
Neider and I planned to test out the new ziplines. Ziplines are wires that you ride. They're some 50, 60, 70 feet in the air, above the trees.
"The helmet is for if something were to fall from above. It's not necessarily because we think you're going to fall," said Hamilton.
"I need that reassurance. That's a good thing," said Neider.
Before we went up, we signed waivers, got some instructions and climbed to the first tower. Neider's knuckles turned white as she got ready.
"We're going to connect you right up here, so move forward," said Hamilton.
"It's my lifeline," said Neider.
As we move closer, Neider looked like she was walking the plank on a pirate ship.
"You'll love it!" said Hamilton.
At the word "Go," I was off and flying. Neider was left standing on the platform with the clock ticking.
"Are you ready?" Hamilton asked.
"Yeah, I'm as ready as I'm going to get, if I can release my white knuckle grip," said Neider.
She finally jumped.
"Oh my god! Whoooooooo! Oh my god!" she said.
"It was totally frightening, letting go. I don't know how you can let go so fast. Oh, it was fun."
"So, you were able to face your fears today?" she was asked.
"I did it. Yes, I did. I do have a fear of heights still, but it was fun. I felt totally secure," said Neider.
The tours range in cost from $40 to $100. It opens Saturday, although the first couple of weeks are sold out, so call ahead or check the Branson Zipline Canopy Tours Web site before you go.

Krissy on Barefoot Mommies blogs about her visit to Branson Mo
My family and I had the most amazing weekend. This was our very first family vacation, I can wish I was kidding, but sadly I’m not.
As most of my readers know we live in Arkansas, North West to be exact. I love it here, it’s a big difference from California where I grew up at.
Have you guys ever been to Branson, MO? If you haven’t you are really missing out on loads of fun! I know that when some people think of Branson, MO they think it’s for the ‘older crowd’. Well times ARE changing and it’s not just for the older crowd, it’s also for the young!
From there we headed to our hotel. Can you say love at first sight??? Ahhh, yes!

This hotel is absolutely breathtaking!
The view is absolutely stunning, the rooms were gorgeous! We were able to get a joining room, one with a king size bed and a sofa and the other room with 2 double beds. Each room had a beautiful balcony which you could see the stunning view from. I didn’t want to leave it was absolutely gorgeous

When we arrived we went straight to our first destination which was the Branson Dinosaur Museum.
This was a lot of fun and my children really enjoyed it. Stay with me as I bring you the full review
In the same building as the Branson’s Dinosaur Museum there was also Haunted in Branson.
My husband and my daughter Alysia went into this one, it’s like a haunted house, very cool! I was outside talking with some very friendly ticket people and I heard my daughter scream, too funny! It’s a live haunted house that you can see anytime of year!
These were tons of fun and they even had a Bounce House inside that my kids just LOVED

The show we saw was called The Shanghai Circus. They were SO unbelievable and so great! They kept my childrens attention throughout the whole show. It’s acrobats from China. They are in the US doing shows in Branson, MO 9 months out of the year and go home to Shanghai, China 3 months out of the year. I was absolutely stunned at the beauty of the show, the women (and girls, there was one who was only 14!) were beautiful. They were so elegant. And I must say just beautiful beyond words! They all have such an amazing talent, they really had me in ‘awe’.

We saw the Kirby VanBurch show. It’s a magic show, well illusions as he says it. It’s AMAZING. My kids LOVED this show and what kid doesn’t love magic and illusions!? Kirby VanBurch is a great entertainer and we had a lot of fun and lots of laughs! We were even able to tour the big cats after the show! There was even a lion that looked kinda mad if you ask me lol…But beautiful to say the least! I loved that he included the cats into the show.
Kirby VanBurch, the Prince of Magic and International Award-Winning Magician, has a show packed full of big time production numbers, dancing, hilarious comedy, and HUGE illusions.

BRANSON, Mo. -- The romantic comedy "She's Out of My League," which opened last month, shows off Pittsburgh at its best with shots of the city's skyline, bridges and three rivers. But the city of Branson also is mentioned prominently in the movie as a vacation hot spot.

Many probably don't even know what state Branson is in, or that 8 million visitors drove or took a plane to the Southwest Missouri town of 7,600 people last year.
So, what makes Branson such a vacation mecca?
